Fruit and vegetables range from the commonplace to the exotic. The potato co-exists with breadfruit, plantain, cassava, yam and christophene. Tamarinds, soursops and sapodillas grow alongside familiar fruits like lemons, limes, mangoes, coconuts, pineapples and avocados. Herbs and spices are grown all over the island, adding their own aromatic scent to the air.
Fresh fruit juices and coconut water are ubiquitous and sold on many street corners. However, rum is undoubtedly the king of the island and is used to create a huge variety of cocktails and punches.
